HHS girls to play No. 2 York in district final

Nine days had passed since the Hastings High girls soccer team defeated Northwest 7-0 at Hastings College’s Lloyd Wilson Field.

The two teams were back at it again Tuesday, on the same field, for a berth into the Class B, District 7 championship. But the outcome wasn’t much different.

The top-seeded Tigers (9-6) ended the Vikings’ (4-10) season with a 4-1 victory, clinching a spot in the district finale for the seventh consecutive season. The Tigers will battle No. 2 York on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Chloe Swoboda had a hat trick by the end of the first half.

“We always play our best game in the second half, so Coach (Chris Pedroza) wanted us to start off strong and get on top,” she said. “I think, when you get on top early, the other team just shuts down. So it was important to get ahead right away.”
