STC, Doniphan-Trumbull excel at invite

DONIPHAN — Tuesday’s Doniphan-Trumbull track and field invite brought several personal bests, thanks, in large part, to the best weather conditions so far this season.

After shuffling runners around due to an injury, the St. Cecilia girls 400 relay team took advantage of the warm temperatures and won the race in a season best 51.82 seconds.

“It’s a PR for us. A person who starts for us just found out she has a stress fracture in her foot,” said STC’s Lil Sheehy. “I’m usually the last leg and today I had to start, and we threw in a new girl... We were actually super happy that things turned out well today.”

When the boys lined up for their 400 relay, St. Cecilia again ran its best time of the year, winning the race with a 45.49.

“The (400 relays) did a nice job. We had to rearrange the girls a little bit, and they ran a season best, which was nice to see,” said St. Cecilia head coach Alan VanCura.
