Hastings team finish in top 3

St. Cecilia's Alex Sheehy chips onto the green on hole No. 5
during the Tri City Invite Tuesday at Jackrabbit Run golf
course in Grand Island.

GRAND ISLAND — After three consecutive years of watching Kearney Catholic raise the trophy at the Tri-City Invite, the three Hastings schools finally had their day at the boys golf meet.

The city of Hastings had the top three team scores, with St. Cecilia winning Tuesday’s Tri City invite after shooting a 321 — just five strokes better than second-place Hastings High (326). Adams Central finished third with a 338.

STC coach Randy Ahrens hopes the first-place finish will build some momentum for his team.

“It was our best score of the year. It’s a good time to be doing that, coming in to our district meet next week,” he said. “I’m really happy for the kids. We played really consistent throughout, so that was a good thing.”
