It has been quite a district tournament for Hastings High’s Rudy Escobar.
After recording two goals and an assist in Tuesday’s Class B, District 7 semifinal against Grand Island Central Catholic, Escobar was back at it again Thursday with a hat trick to lead the No. 1-seeded Tigers (13-4) to a 3-0 win over third-seeded York (7-6) at Hastings College’s Lloyd Wilson Field.
Hastings High won its sixth consecutive district title and advanced to Saturday’s substate round. The Tigers, ranked ninth overall in Class B by the Omaha World-Herald, will host Scottsbluff at 11 a.m.
With five goals in the tournament, Escobar upped his season total to 16.
“It’s exciting for Rudy as an individual,” said HHS head coach Mike Nanfito. “But we, as a coaching staff, continue to push every guy on this team. We continue to push Rudy and make sure he’s getting better. He’s not satisfied.”
