Lawrence-Nelson boys golf coach Ron Thayer knew his team’s ability to hit the ball off the tee against a stiff wind was going to be key in Thursday’s conference meet.
The Raiders did just fine in winning the Twin Valley Conference tournament at the Elks Golf Course with a team score of 409.
“I was worried there. We didn’t start very well and then the wind picked up,” Thayer said. “This is a very demanding golf course, and it’s a unique golf course in the fact that most of the holes run east or west. The wind today was across a lot, and that’s hard on my players. They made some adjustments in the middle of the round”
Lawrence-Nelson’s Stephen Kimminau took the top spot in the individual competition, shooting an 88.
