OMAHA — The Hastings High girls soccer team owned a perfect 3-for-3 record in shootouts this season, so when its Class B state quarterfinal game with No. 4-seeded Columbus Scotus went into the penalty kicks, the confidence was high.

That confidence was shattered when none of the Tigers' (13-4) shots found the net in the shootout, resulting in a 2-1 win for the Shamrocks (11-3).

"Our goal at the beginning of the season was that we were not going to lose a game in PKs," said HHS head coach Chris Pedroza. "It just wasn't meant to be today."

Scotus scored on three of their four kicks in the shootout.
