The Holdrege girls tennis team displayed its ability to stay consistent and close matches in a 7-2 victory over Adams Central in a dual on Tuesday.
“It’s a little bit (disappointing). Holdrege is a good team, consistent one through six. We competed well throughout — better than what we did earlier in the season — but, again, it’s about consistency,” said AC head coach Rod Hartman afterward. “We have to put things together. That’s something we have to be able to do before we get to state.”
The loss overshadowed a big day for the Patriots’ No. 2 doubles unit of Sarah Krueger and Jorie Burr, who earned an 8-5 win over Holdrege’s Jessica Reed and Grace Schrock.
Adams Central has competed against Holdrege at various invites throughout the season, and Krueger and Burr had yet to walk off the court victorious. In fact, the Dusters’ duo always seemed to escape with their win.
“For doubles, we had lost to them numerous times. It was really close, like 8-5 or 8-6. We wanted to come in and beat them, and we had a good day and got it done,” Krueger said.
