STC dominates field to win district title

Golf Course. Murman shot a 75 to place first individually.

Many coaches will say the hardest part of the boys golf state tournament is just getting there. For two Tribland teams, the hardest part is over.

St. Cecilia won the Class C, District 1 meet on Monday at Southern Hills Golf Course and Sutton was runner-up, qualifying both teams for the state meet May 21-22 at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln.

"We're all really happy we get to go to Lincoln for state," STC junior Alex Sheehy said. "That's been our goal all year and we finally got there."

STC dominated the field with a 322, which was 38 strokes in front of second-place Sutton (360). The Bluehawks also had three of the top six scores, with junior Josh Murman shooting a 75 to win the individual championship by three strokes.

"Josh, as I heard someone say, 'He's a Murman. He's a grinder.' I take that as a compliment and he should take that as a compliment because he knows what it takes," STC coach Randy Ahrens said. "He really sticks with it, he doesn't get too high or too low, and he's learned to control that well. He's shown growth and maturity throughout the course of the year."
