GRAND ISLAND — In warm temperatures, Red Cloud's Blake Brumbaugh stayed cool.
At Monday's Class D, District 2 meet at Indianhead Golf Club, the senior golfer had to go into a playoff with Cross County's Dalton Clark after both had 18-hole rounds of 78 to tie for first.
Brumbaugh had felt a similar pressure before when he battled down the stretch in last season's district meet before finishing second individually.
He wasn't about to let that happen again in his senior campaign, winning the playoff on the first hole.
"I knew I just had to stay calm and play my game," Brumbaugh said.
Brumbaugh's strong day wasn't the only triumph for Tribland at the 15-team meet. Deshler placed second with a team score of 376 to qualify for state for the first time in school history. The Dragons were led by a ninth-place finish from senior Brett Finke (88).
