LINCOLN — For the second straight year, Sydney Landell and Maddison McConnaughhay reached the quarterfinals at No. 1 doubles of the Class B state tournament.

Unfortunately for the Hastings High duo, the result was the same. The two came one win shy of reaching the second day of the state tournament, falling to Grand Island Central Catholic's Katherine Golka and Alexandra Rieke 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals Thursday at the Nebraska Tennis Center.

Landell, a junior, and McConnaughhay end the season 32-9. The two were seeded fifth, while Golka and Rieke were seeded fourth.

Also reaching the quarterfinals for Hastings High was senior Bailey Christy at No. 1 singles. She fell there to top-seeded Emily Fink of Elkhorn South 6-0, 6-0.

Hastings High finishes with 18 points, which put the Tigers in ninth place heading into today's semifinal matchups. St. Cecilia picked up two team points, while Adams Central didn't record any points.
