OMAHA — It didn't take long for Tribland to make some noise at the state track and field meet in Omaha.
In the meet's opening race, the girls Class C 3,200-meter relay, Sutton and Fillmore Central finished second and third with times of 9:44.68 and 9:57.75 respectively, while St. Cecilia placed sixth (10:06.53).
"I told them that I want to go out my senior year with a bang," said Sutton's Maria VanKirk. "I would say second place is a pretty big medal."
Sutton's Delaney Lemkau ran the Mustangs' first leg of the race — something she wasn't used to.
"I was very nervous. I've always ran the last leg, so I wasn't sure how to get out. I've only been running the 800 for about three meets now," Lemkau said. "I knew I had to get out right away because I knew their strides would be bigger than mine. My mindset was just get out, don't get trapped and keep my leads."
