OMAHA — The Hastings High girls track and field team may have only had three athletes competing on day one of the Class A state meet, but the Tigers got all they could ask for.

The HHS girls team left Omaha Burke Stadium with three medals on Friday.

"As a coaching staff, I would say that we are excited that the end was as positive as it was," said Tigers coach Scott Rosno. "We talked at the beginning of the year, and these were the kids and the events that we thought stood the best chance to have some success."

Rosno was especially impressed the mental strength of the Tigers' two freshman competitors, Libby Knapple and Rae Markle.
Markle placed seventh in the long jump. Placing at the state track meet as a freshman is something she will remember.

"It was pretty awesome, I was excited. I was just happy that I made it to finals," Markle said.
