HHS girls fall in state semis

Hastings High's Markki Fraizer battles for possession of the
ball against Gretna's Sarah Zeleny in the semifinal round of
the state tournament in Omaha Saturday.

OMAHA — The Class B No. 9 Hastings High girls soccer team had more than 24 hours to soak in its first-round upset of No. 2 Omaha Skutt Catholic before playing in Saturday's state semifinal with Gretna.

The No. 3 Dragons, though, only needed 49 seconds to bring the Tigers off their cloud.
Makenzie Burmeister scored on Gretna's first shot of the game, giving her team all the momentum en route to a 3-1 win at Creighton's Morrison Stadium.

"We gave up the goal right away and it cost us a lot. Mentally, it throws a team off to give up a goal early," said Hastings head coach Chris Pedroza. "Mentally, we weren't there in the first half."
