OMAHA — Simon Wiedel has been a state track and field champion before.
Last year, he won both an individual title and helped Thayer Central capture the team title. But that was at the junior high state meet in Gothenburg.
Friday and Saturday at Omaha Burke for the high school state track and field meet couldn't really compare.
The result was much the same, though.
Now a freshman for the Titans, Wiedel won both the Class C 100 and 200-meter dashes Saturday to propel Thayer Central to the boys state team title.
"It's overwhelming," said Wiedel, who finished the 100 in 10.85 seconds and the 200 in 22.39. "Last year I had junior high state track. It's not quite like this. There's a few more people and it's pretty nerve-racking."
Thayer Central dominated the Class C field, finishing with 70 points to beat second-place Ord by 27 points. Wiedel alone contributed 32 points.
