It's official: Creech coach of Tigers

It didn't take long for Lance Creech to fill the coaching void inside of him after stepping down from the Hastings College men's basketball head coaching position earlier this year.

On Monday, the Hastings Board of Education approved the request to have Creech become the new head coach of the Hastings High boys basketball team after former head coach Scott Rosno stepped down from the position.

"When I spoke to (HHS Principal Jay Opperman), he asked if I wanted the opportunity to coach the varsity team at this time or should they look in a different direction," said Creech, who also has been hired as an eighth-grade health teacher at Hastings Middle School. "I talked to my wife and family about it. I didn't think I would be coaching again nearly this quickly, but at the same time, opportunities and chances to coach basketball don't come around very often. I figured I had better take it while I have it."

When Creech accepted the teaching position, he was under the impression that he would be coaching basketball at the middle school level, but after Rosno resigned as coach, the opportunity was open for Creech.
