FPB can’t hold early lead

Five Points Bank pitcher Mason Spilinek fields a hit by Kearney's
Chris Langin Tuesday night at Smith Softball Complex.

Luck was not on the Five Points Bank American Legion baseball team’s side in its season opener.

FPB opened the 2014 season in its home away from home, Prairie Ridge Park, against Kearney. Hastings took an early lead, but gave up runs in frustrating fashion in the fourth and fifth, en route to a 5-3 loss on Tuesday.

“They just seemed to get a few breaks with the runners on in scoring position, and we couldn’t get them,” said FPB head coach Russ Kindig. “I thought our approach at the plate was great. We worked a lot of counts and didn’t strike out, but we couldn’t finish them off. But I’m happy overall with the first night.”
