Hastings serves up a daily double at state tennis

LINCOLN — Two doubles teams from Hastings met this morning in the semifinals of the Class B state tennis tournament for a berth in the championship match.

Hastings High’s Kathleen Bartunek and Sydney Landell beat St. Cecilia’s Morgan Nikkila and Clare Hamburger to advance to this afternoon’s No. 2 doubles state championship match against Jamie Healy and Elia Healy of Skutt Catholic at the Nebraska Tennis Center.

Nikkila and Hamburger will also play this afternoon in the consolation match against Hayley Nienhueser and Taylor Peterson of York.

After losing the first set this morning 7-6 in a tiebreaker, Bartunek and Landell came back to win the next two sets 6-1, 6-1. The two doubles teams had not played against other until this morning.
