OMAHA — Tyler Loontjer rewrote the state pole vault record books Friday.

First, during the second session of the state track and field meet at Omaha Burke Stadium, the Fillmore Central senior cleared 15 feet, 6 inches to break the Class C state meet record.

Then, after clearing 15-9 to better that record, Loontjer vaulted a new all-class state meet record of 16-2 1/2.

In the process, the University of Nebraska recruit won the Class C state title by 14 1/2 inches over the next two competitors.

"I didn't expect that today, that's for sure," Loontjer said. "It's awesome."
