BDS' Mick breaks state meet record

Bruning/Davenport-Shickley's Catherine Mick clears the bar
while competing in the Class D pole vault Friday at the
state meet in Omaha.

OMAHA — Catherine Mick is halfway there.

After wining the Class D state title in the pole vault last year as a freshman, the Bruning-Davenport/Shickley sophomore followed that with another first-place finish Friday during the first day of the state track and meet field at Omaha Burke Stadium.

This time, Mick set the Class D all-time state meet record with a vault of 11 feet, 1/2 inch — bettering the previous mark by 1/2 inch.

"It would be cool to get four," Mick said. "Once I won (last year), it's been a goal to get four. I got it my freshman year, I may as well get it the rest."
