A grand jury concluded that there had been no criminal conduct in the death of a 58-year-old Hastings man who died following a police standoff in June, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the Clerk of the Adams County District Court.
District Judge Stephen Illingworth convened the grand jury Tuesday to hear evidence regarding the death of David W. Langenberg as required by state law because it was considered an in-custody death.
Adams County Attorney Donna Fegler Daiss presented evidence to the jury, which completed its deliberations the same day and determined the cause of death to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Langenberg was suspected of shooting his ex-wife, Lana Langenberg, multiple times at her home at 1011 Hill St. on June 26.
Law enforcement surrounded David’s home at 810 N. Bellevue Ave. later that day.
A negotiator with the Nebraska State Patrol attempted to resolve the stand-off peacefully, but David exited his home and ultimately shot himself.
