DAVENPORT — This weekend brings Davenport Achievement Day here, an annual summer festival and fundraiser for upkeep of the Davenport Community Building.

The event is organized by the Davenport Achievement Board.

Activities begin bright and early on Saturday and continue through Sunday afternoon. Highlights include a parade Saturday and a road rally on Sunday. Here’s the schedule:


8 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Coed sand volleyball tournament in the park

9-11 a.m.: Water fights east of Community Building

9 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Inflatable obstacle course and yard games in park

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Hamburger and hot dog feed in park

2 p.m: Bingo at Community Building

2 p.m.: Little Tuggers pedal tractor pull west of school

3-4 p.m.: Watermelon-eating contest in park

4 p.m.: Line-up for parade at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church

5 p.m.: Parade (route along Linden Avenue)

5:30-7:30 p.m.: Lions Club brisket barbecue meal served

8:30 a.m.: Live music in RW’s beer garden


10 a.m. Community worship service at Community Building

11 a.m to 1 p.m.: Pancake feed in Community Building

1 p.m.: Road rally (line-up north of RW’s)
