The Nebraska State Fire Marshal’s Office Tuesday identified the man who died last week in a house fire as Timothy L. Obester.
The 52-year-old man died in his home at 501 University St. Thursday morning.
The cause of Obester’s death and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.
Notice of Obester’s death appeared in the Hastings Tribune on Saturday, and an obituary was published Tuesday.
Obester’s funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church.
A passer-by reported the fire about 4:20 a.m. Thursday, according to Hastings Fire and Rescue. When firefighters arrived, the house was fully involved in the blaze. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire enough to allow entry into the building to search for Obester, the only occupant of the residence.
City firefighters had assistance from an engine with the Hastings Rural Fire Department and received support from the American Red Cross. The Hastings Police Department helped with the investigation.
Two firefighters were treated for dehydration, but no other injuries were reported in the fire.
An autopsy was conducted Friday morning to determine the cause of Obester’s death.
