Significant changes have made the University of Nebraska-Lincoln veterinary medicine program more Nebraska-centered.
UNL has completed a shift begun in 2006, from a cooperative effort with Kansas State University to one with Iowa State University.
Simultaneously, UNL has established its own veterinary medicine program in Lincoln, where students attend the first two years of their four-year doctoral program before transferring to ISU. The first class to attend both sites just reached ISU in August 2009.
The UNL program also received “school” status in October, an elevation from its former status as a department under the same name. It is now the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
School status
The new school includes the teaching, research and extension education program formerly in the veterinary medicine department. It also includes undergraduate and graduate degrees, as well as the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine offered by the UNL/ISU agreement.
The Nebraska Veterinary Diagnostic Center on UNL’s East Campus and the Great Plains Veterinary Education Center near Clay Center also are part of the school.
