An assistant coach who helped lead the St. Cecilia boys basketball team to a state title last week will be pursuing a championship of his own this weekend in the 29th annual Whoopers and Hoopers tournament.
Scott Wissing and the rest of the Stryker team are hoping to do well in the tournament, starting with their first game this morning.
Scott became assistant coach for the St. Cecilia varsity basketball team this season, which culminated in the school’s third championship win in a row. Incidentally, Scott’s twin brothers, Jeremy and Jay, won the Class C-1 championship during their senior year at Grand Island Central Catholic ten years prior.
The twins have played basketball together with their younger brother Scott for many years, so joining forces for tournaments comes naturally. Jeremy lives in Denver and Jay recently moved to Fort Collins, Colo.
“We’ve grown up playing together,” Scott said. “Jay and Jeremy know that whenever they play in this area, I will play with them.”
Outside of the family, Zach Sullivan and Zach Gehlhaus, both of Fort Collins, compose the core of the team. The five core members of the group have teamed up regularly over the last couple years.
