Mustang spirit strong in fourth-grader

When standout cheerleader Jenna Thayer of Silver Lake High School marches in this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, she'll have one very invested fan cheering her on through the television.

Holly Wilcox, 9, a Silver Lake fourth-grader, raised money through three bake sales held in October to help the senior Mustang pay for her monumental New York City excursion, which will include a Broadway musical, Radio City Music Hall performance and Rockefeller Center visit in addition to the nationally televised parade.

Thayer is one of 10 cheerleaders chosen to represent the Spirit of America cheer squad in the parade. It was the second straight year she was chosen for the honor, based on her performance at the summer cheer camp hosted by SOA. She did not attend the parade last year but will be boarding a plane this time around on Nov. 18, thanks in part to a generous donation by Holly.
