Mayor Powers earns four more years
Hastings’ Mayor Vern Powers will remain in his position for another four years.
Powers, who has been mayor since 2008, won the seat with 6,796, or 79 percent, of the votes. His challenger, Emilio Llanes of Hastings, had 1,784, or 21 percent of the vote.
With 14 years of community service under his belt, Powers said he’s looking forward to another four. He served on the Hastings City Council and the Airport Authority before being elected mayor.
“I think the citizens of Hastings are saying that I’ve done a good job,” he said Tuesday night.
