Seiler beats Hughes for District 33 seat

Les Seiler and his wife, Jo, share a smile as they watch the
returns on the legislative race on television from their
reception party at the Masonic Center Tuesday evening.

Running what he called a grass-roots, upbeat race, Les Seiler carried the day in the District 33 race in similar fashion to how he fared in the primary, besting challenger Marvin “Butch” Hughes by a margin of 66 to 33 percent Tuesday night.

Watching the results unfold on a big-screen television from inside his campaign reception headquarters late Tuesday, Seiler and his wife, Jo, were in good spirits as reports repeatedly pointed to a one-sided victory in his favor. He shook hands with supporters and chatted on and off with his committee chairman, Brian Jorgensen, and event organizer Carol Hoffman.

“I’m pretty happy, to tell you the truth,” he said. “I had a good committee, good advertising, and we kept the high road."
