Voter turnout in Adams County was slightly higher than the statewide average, but local officials were hoping for more.
Adams County Election Commissioner Chris Lewis had estimated 68-70 of registered voters would vote Tuesday. The actual total was just shy of that mark.
With 12,686 of 18,688 registered voters casting ballots in the election, 67.88 percent of voters in Adams County participated. Four years ago when Barack Obama was first elected President, voter turnout in Adams County was 69 percent.
Statewide, 66.96 percent of registered voters cast a ballot, according to the Nebraska Secretary of State website.
