Sewer rates to see planned 8 percent increase

As recommended by the Board of Public Works earlier this year, an 8 percent increase in sanitary sewer rates will go into effect January 1.

This was one of three departmental rate increases recommended during the board's budget work sessions this week. The others are a 12 percent recommended increase in water rates and a 5 percent jump in electric rates.

The rates for pollution control, however, have been approved in conjunction with the construction of new and environmentally-stringent equipment and storage at the Hastings Pollution Control Facility at the southeast corner of Showboat Boulevard and 26th Street.
