SUV collides with train

Hastings firefighters work the scene of a collision involving
an SUV and a train Friday evening in downtown Hastings.
The SUV was travelling northbound collided with the train
at Colorado Avenue and was dragged a block west.

No one was injured Friday evening when a train collided with a sports utility vehicle at the Colorado Avenue crossing between First and South streets.

A train was backing up westbound about 9:30 p.m. when it collided with a tan SUV heading northbound over the tracks, according to Hastings Fire Chief Kent Gilbert.

The SUV, with the driver and two other occupants, was dragged west for about a block until the train came to a stop nearly parallel to Denver Avenue.
The two passengers reportedly left the area while the driver remained to speak with emergency personnel.
