Farmland auction fetches $15.13 million

Sutton farmer Eric Cloat takes careful notes during an auction

It was David vs. Goliath all over again.
A group of about 250 farmers, investors and spectators cheered loudly as nine bidders toppled one investor’s attempt at buying all 1,855 acres at a major farmland auction Thursday on the Adams County Fairgrounds.

By continuing to bid separately following a late $15.1 million bid from an unidentified investor, the other investors were able to drive the final sale price up to $15.13 million. The 16 tracts of mostly pivot-irrigated land are located in the Holstein-Roseland area.
