Council prepares for multimillion-dollar project for clean water

With rising nitrate levels in Hastings' drinking water, the city soon will be facing a multimillion-dollar water restoration project.

The Hastings City Council approved an interlocal agreement at its meeting Monday to help fund a water safety study so the city can begin implementing a solution.

"We have a huge water project looming in front of us," Mayor Vern Powers said.

Hastings Utilities Manager Marv Schultes emphasized that the cost will be millions.
The interlocal agreement for the Aquifer Storage and Restoration Water Study is with the Little Blue and the Upper Big Blue natural resources districts.
