Dick and Mavis Davey cheer during the St. Cecilia volleyball
playoff game in Grand Island Thursday morning.

GRAND ISLAND — Like Cecil, the school mascot, Dick and Mavis Davey are a fixture at sporting events at Hastings St. Cecilia.

Parishioners at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the couple — Dick is 80, Mavis, 82 — has been attending Bluehawks’ boys and girls basketball games, volleyball, track and football contests for decades.

Long after the graduation of their two daughters, Nancy, in 1974, and Denise in 1977, they’ve continued patronizing the school teams, attending as many of the games as they are able in most sports.
