Local officers weigh in on drugged driving
As law enforcement officers in Colorado and Washington prepare to ramp up efforts to keep stoned drivers off the roads, local officers know from experience that determining the level of drug impairment can be tricky.
Unlike portable breath tests for alcohol, there’s no easily available way to determine whether someone is impaired from recent pot use.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office drug investigator Glenn Kemp said when trying to determine whether a driver is impaired by drugs, established procedure at the local level is to call a drug recognition expert.
