Attorney: Shooting ‘dark day for all of us’

The president of the Nebraska State Bar Association said the Grand Island attorney gunned down as he left his law office Wednesday was a talented, hard-working advocate for his clients.

Attorney Todd Elsbernd, 52, who had been practicing law for just more than 25 years, was shot in the back with a high-velocity rifle.

“This is a great and tragic loss for his family, for his partners, and for all of the members of the Nebraska State Bar Association,” said G. Michael Fenner of the Creighton School of Law. “The 9,300 members of the Nebraska State Bar Association unite in expressing their sympathy and sorrow in this time of grief for Todd’s family, his partners, and his friends.”
