Franklin students help movie theater open
regular show times to resume Saturday

FRANKLIN — Just before hundreds of Franklin Elementary School students settled in Thursday morning with their popcorn and soda to watch “First Dog,” Cynthia Rubendall called them all to attention by whistling loudly.

When Rubendall asked the children if they knew the theater rules, they replied that they are not to use their chairs as napkins.

“If you look, they’re clean,” she said. “So, keep them that way.”

The Rose Bowl Theatre in downtown Franklin was cleaner than it had ever been in its 20-year history, Rubendall said, following a post-fire renovation. Franklin students helped raise money for the renovation.

“This is the whole reason we started this, to keep our kids in town having something to do,” Rubendall said. “We’re hoping out of this — their enthusiasm for helping us out — it helps them have a little bit of ownership to this. All of it’s volunteer and a lot of those kids when they get a little bigger will be in here helping us.”
