Fe Cogley, volunteer services coordinator for the Friends of Hastings Public Library, is checking out this month to pursue the next chapter in her life.

Cogley, 59, will work sparingly through Nov. 26, when she will turn the final page on a career that has spanned 20 years.

“It’s been a hard decision,” she said. “I have so many friends, and I’ve loved every minute on the job. I’m just going to enjoy things for a while and see where things lead.”

A Hastings native, Cogley came on board with Friends in 1992, assuming a position created to organize a group that operated without a leader for about a decade. She had graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in journalism, and her resumé included stints at Dutton-Lainson Co., University of Nebraska Cooperative Extension, Hastings Public Schools and District 33 Elementary.

Her primary responsibility as volunteer coordinator was directing the annual book sale, a library fundraiser that had been only marginally successful before she took it over.
