Defense sets tone for high-flying Giltner offense

Giltner's Jake Findley looks to pass against Shelton
during the Class D-2 semifinal Monday at Shelton.

GILTNER — While Giltner quarterback Jake Findley has been putting up record-setting numbers this season, a stout Hornet defense has been providing him with plenty of opportunities.

The Hornets will compete for a state championship against the Humphrey St. Francis Flyers 10:15 a.m. Monday at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln.

“If not for our defense, our offense doesn’t get the opportunities it gets,” head coach Jeff Ashby said.

For instance, during the semifinal 60-20 victory against Shelton on Monday, the defense held Shelton running back Luke Glenn, whom had been averaging 170 yards per game, to 64 yards on 25 carries.
