The one with the most noise wins



St. Cecilia players celebrate their Class C-2 state
championship Saturday at the Heartland Events Center.

Entering Saturday's match as underdogs, the St. Cecilia volleyball team knew it needed to raise the bar to emerge victorious. By the same token, its student cheering section was going to have to raise the roof to help in that effort.

Dressed in togas and other "white out" attire, the cheering section of more than 50 did its part to give the team the boost it needed to capture the team's first state title in more than two decades.

Armed with homemade signs, a staff, banners and Gary the Mink good luck charm, the cheerers looked almost as spent as the players following the four-game win, as they stood applauding the accomplishment they felt was at least partially theirs to share.
