slated to start at Lincoln Elementary School next year. The
program will bring fathers into the school as volunteers to
encourage positive male role models.
Showing students positive male role models is the goal of a new program being implemented at Lincoln Elementary School.
Parents of students at the school learned about the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) program last week.
Watch D.O.G.S. is a father involvement initiative by the National Center For Fathering. Jenae Meyer, a senior at the University of Nebraska at Kearney student teaching at Lincoln Elementary, said fathers are asked to volunteer at least one day in their child’s school. The men will work alongside educators to help as crossing guards, hallway monitors, lunchroom helpers, classroom tutors and playground coaches.
Meyer’s father, Ron, volunteered to help get the program started at Lincoln Elementary.
“We hope to have a Watch D.O.G. here for these kids every day,” he said. “Any time you dads can give is going to have a powerful impact for our children and community.”
