Sutton football hoping for resurgence

SUTTON — For years, Sutton High School has seen more success in basketball than the realm of football. But that has been changing under the tutelage of coach Steve Ramer.

The Mustangs have made the playoffs each year since 2010. The previous two years, they were beaten in the first round — after going six years without even reaching the playoffs. This year, the Mustangs are undefeated at 12-0 and have made it all the way to Lincoln, where they will take on Aquinas Catholic in the Class C-2 state championship game Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at Memorial Stadium. The game will be shown live over the Internet on HTmedia, as well as televised on NET.

“It will be another great championship game,” Ramer said. “We just have to focus hard and stop their running game.”

This isn’t the first time the Mustangs made it to the championship game in the football, but the last time was 23 years ago.
