After more than 27 years of public service, Adams County Clerk Chris Lewis is retiring.
Lewis, 65, gave official notice of her retirement to the Adams County Board of Supervisors at its meeting Tuesday morning. Her retirement will be effective Jan. 11, 2013.
Lewis was appointed by the board of supervisors to the newly created election commissioner position in 1985. She became county clerk in 1997.
As clerk, Lewis oversees county board records, county payroll, accounts payable, marriage licenses, voter registration, election and candidate filings and military discharges. As the county election commissioner, she supervises all elections, including overseeing the many county polling places and tabulating the results of elections.
She said retiring is bittersweet, but she looks forward to spending time with her husband, Jack, in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., during the winter.
