The Hastings City Council approved Hastings Utilities’ $88.8 million budget for 2013 at its meeting Monday night with only six of the nine members present.
Mayor Very Powers, Todd Oatman and Phil Odom were absent from the meeting.
The budget includes several rate increases as well as one credit to ratepayers.
The council approved the increase in the sanitary sewer rate by 8 percent each year from 2014-2016.
The increase is to pay for equipment to comply with tighter environmental standards at the wastewater treatment plant, including keeping ammonia waste down. This equipment is currently being installed at the plant.
