DESHLER — Whether it’s the Fairbury artist who makes concrete sculptures for Disney or the Ratigan-Schottler church furniture factory in Beatrice, a group of women with ties to Deshler has been learning about attractions throughout southeastern and south central Nebraska for more than 10 years.
Deshler Girls Out began as a group of friends who met weekly for coffee.
Pat Schardt said busy lives led the women to begin meeting just once a month. Through those monthly day trips they’ve all learned quite a bit.
Schardt, along with Joyce Schardt, Lois Pohlman, Carol Sorge, Joy Deterding and Cassie Wilbeck, toured the Hastings Tribune Nov. 7.
“Every town has its own little niche and that’s what we enjoy doing is finding those little niches,” Deterding said. “Even shopping on their little main streets is a lot of fun, too.”
Food is a big part of the outings, as well. They begin the trips with breakfast and end them with lunch.
