Red tape prevents 12th Street from construction

A project to widen 12th Street near the Hastings College sports complex has been delayed by red tape and other factors, but city officials are hoping to start the project in a few months.

“We’ll push as much as we can,” City Engineer Dave Wacker said. “Just basically process — red tape and process — have pushed this back. We’re hoping to start it this spring, though.”
The project to widen 12th Street to three lanes from Elm to Sixth avenues also includes adding a sidewalk on the north side of the street, extending the hike and bike trail along the south side and installing a box culvert for drainage on the south side.
