NEBRASKA CITY — Exeter-Milligan fine-tuned its final Halloween plans during the halftime break Wednesday night, then gave Lourdes Central Catholic the downside of the holiday's trick-or-treat moniker as it defeated the Knights 45-22 in the second round of the Class D-1 state football playoffs at Nebraska City.
The 10-0 Timberwolves, who have qualified for the state playoffs 10 straight years, will step into the D-1 state quarterfinals for the second time in three years when they face High Plains on Tuesday in Milligan.
Leading only 12-6 at halftime, E-M came out of intermission a changed team, according to head coach Dean Filipi.
"The kids did a good job of focusing upon what they needed to do," Filipi said. "They came out in the third quarter and demonstrated how to play good football. They got after the ball, which made a big difference in the momentum and we got things rolling our way."
