Gavers earns first win as Bronco coach

Expectations for the Hastings College men's basketball team were high going into the season. The Broncos return several starters from last season, HC nabbed a No. 23 ranking in the NAIA Division II preseason poll, and Bill Gavers took over the reins of the team in his first year as head coach.

Friday's season opener did not disappoint.
The Broncos started the season right, defeating Baker University 89-77, giving Gavers his first win as a Bronco.

"There were some really good moments. I thought we came out with a lot of intensity and a lot of passion," Gavers said. "Give Baker credit, their kids scrapped and competed and did some good things... They really made us work down the stretch of the game to finish the job."
