championship match Thursday at Beatrice High School. Zwickl

the Indians.
BEATRICE — Solid defense and 48 kills helped Exeter-Milligan earn its fourth straight trip to the Class D-1 state volleyball tournament with a 25-7, 25-8, 25-17 victory over Pawnee City Thursday night in the Class D-1, District 1 championship at Beatrice High School.
The win seemed almost anticlimactic at the end of a week crammed with subdistrict wins over volleyball powerhouse teams from Heartland and Bruning-Davenport/Shickley on Monday and Tuesday and then E-M’s state football playoffs victory over Lourdes Central Catholic Wednesday night at Nebraska City.
“We knew we had to get past Heartland so we geared up for that game first, yet we realized we’d need to beat BDS to get here tonight,” E-M head coach Darcy White said. “Then we rushed to Nebraska City for the football game last night all the girls went to that and suddenly we were back in school today and remembered we had a game tonight. ... It was surreal.”
