HOWELLS — The No. 1 team in Class D-1 has fallen.
Bruning-Davenport/Shickley, seeded fourth in the East bracket of the D-1 playoffs, upset Howells-Dodge 25-18 Tuesday in the state quarterfinals. The win puts BDS (10-1) into a semifinals match with Exeter-Milligan (11-0) Monday at 6:30 p.m. in Bruning.
The loss ended the Jaguars’ hopes of a fifth consecutive appearance in the state championship game, and it’s also the first time since 1999 that a Howells team playing in eight-man will not be in the finals. Howells-Dodge ends the season (10-1)
Quarterback Ryan Tegtmeier put the Eagles on the board first with a 15-yard touchdown run in the opening period.
