Hinrichs leads Giltner into quarterfinals

WACO — A week ago, Giltner needed a fourth-quarter rally to survive in the opening round of the playoffs.

On Wednesday, led by junior quarterback Ben Hinrichs, the defending state champion Hornets jumped to a 38-12 halftime lead and rolled to a 44-12 win over previously unbeaten Nebraska Lutheran in the second round of the Class D-2 playoffs.

"It was nice to have some breathing room this week," said Giltner coach Jeff Ashby, whose Hornets had opened postseason play the previous week with a 28-26 win over Lawrence-Nelson.
